GetBuckets privacy policy
Last updated 8 October 2026
GetBuckets counts basketball makes and misses using your phone's camera. Everything it does happens on your phone. The app has no account and no advertising.
Camera
The app uses the camera to watch the hoop while a session runs. Frames are analysed on the device in real time and are not stored, except as described under Shot videos below.
What is stored on your phone
- Sessions: date, length, makes, misses, streaks and, when court lines were set, the zone of each shot.
- Shot videos: if enabled, a clip of about four seconds around each shot, so you can check a call later. You are asked whether to keep them when a session ends, and you can delete them for one session or all sessions at any time.
- Reviewed videos: when you review a video from your phone, the app can keep a link to that file so you can watch shots again. The file itself is not copied.
- Shot data: for each shot, what the detector saw for a few seconds around it (positions of the ball and hoop, not images), the app's call, and any correction you made. This is what would let a wrong call improve the app. It can be turned off in Settings, and it only ever leaves the phone if you choose Export and share the file yourself.
- Crash reports: if the app crashes, the error and the last lines of its log are saved on the phone. On the next start you are asked whether to email them to the developer. Nothing is sent unless you do.
- Settings: voice and earbud preferences.
All of this lives in the app's private storage. It is removed when you uninstall the app.
What leaves your phone
Video, images, audio and anything that identifies you never leave your phone.
By default, the app sends one small summary per session. There is no prompt; it is on from first install, and you can turn it off any time in Settings ("Share anonymous stats"). Each summary lists:
- your shot and make counts, and any corrections you made
- how long the session ran, rounded
- how long calibration took, and whether the ring had to be searched for by the app or drawn by hand
- your phone model and OS version, and the app version
- how fast your phone analysed frames
- whether callouts, clips or earbud gestures were used
- whether you were holding the phone in portrait or landscape
- the date, without the time
- which session this is on your phone (a count kept on the device, such as "the 12th session"), and how many days since your first and previous sessions
There is no install id and no other identifier of any kind in a summary. The session number and the days-since values come from counters the app keeps on your phone; they say nothing about who you are or which phone it was, and they can't be used to link one summary to another or to a device or person. Turning the setting off stops sending and deletes anything waiting to be sent; turning it back on starts again from scratch.
Our server keeps the summary plus a coarse country and the hour it arrived. It does not store your IP address or any device identifiers. This data is kept for up to 18 months, used only to improve the app, and never sold or shared. It is stored with Cloudflare, who process it on our behalf.
The only other way data leaves the phone is when you export shot data or send a crash report or feedback yourself, which go through the app you choose, such as your email or file sharing.
Microphone and audio
The app does not record audio. It plays spoken feedback through your speaker or earbuds, and while a session runs it listens for earbud button presses so you can correct a call.
Children
The app is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new date.
